Inspect production materials and products, prepare samples and conduct testing to ensure compliance with DOT, customer and Company standards on all materials.  Prepare and maintain accurate data of testing results.  Prepare various reports, work with outside vendors, agencies and customers, and formulate specific recommendations to resolve or correct quality issues.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Inspect, sample, and conduct routine and special laboratory testing on construction aggregates, masonry products and ready mix concrete in conformance with appropriate standard test methods.
  • Ensure quality of products during production, shipping, and at job sites.
  • Communicate test results to supervisors and properly document the results in a database.
  • Prepare statistical summary quality reports.
  • Troubleshoot plant and job site problems.
  • Visually inspect material sources, stockpiles, and truckloads at ready-mix batch plants.
  • Conduct testing and assist in plant calibrations to ensure product quality.
  • Verify outside construction materials testing laboratory results and maintain accurate, timely records of test data, product quality and defective materials.
  • Complies with all Safety, Health, Environmental and other Company policies and procedures.
  • Performs other functions and duties as required or directed.


  • Product Knowledge of concrete mix design characteristics and product specifications
  • Mathematical skills including weights and measures conversions
  • Excellent communication skills – oral and written

  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I
  • ACI Strength Testing Technician
  • ACI Aggregate Testing Technician – Level I
  • ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician – Level I
  • DOT Batch Plant Operation Certification


  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Three years laboratory testing experience in ready-mix concrete or construction aggregates properties preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Candidate must be drug free.
  • Position requires moderately strenuous physical work.
  • Regular walking, standing, climbing, reaching, seizing, holding, grasping, turning, pulling, pushing and lifting activities are required for this position.
  • Must be able to:
  • Occasionally push/pull up to 50 pounds of force
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist level
  • Climb in and out of equipment 50+ times per day
  • Climb up and down ladders occasionally
  • Sit/stand for extended periods of time
  • Work outdoors under Panhandle/West Texas/Southeastern New Mexico weather
  • Work on rough, muddy, icy and/or uneven job site surfaces
  • Work long and flexible hours as necessary
  • Environment will vary from outdoors with varying noise levels and vibrations associated with construction equipment, and exposure to building materials, dust and dirt at operating sites to a normal office environment.
